Biography

Jared Tully is a nationally recognized commercial litigator who represents financial institutions, creditors, and businesses in complex disputes across state and federal courts. He concentrates his practice on commercial litigation, banking and finance litigation, and bankruptcy and insolvency matters, with particular depth defending institutional lenders in high-stakes proceedings. Ranked by Chambers USA for Litigation: General Commercial in West Virginia, Jared is described by clients as “a well-connected and experienced attorney” who is “consistently fair and responsive.” He leads FBT Gibbons’ Business Litigation Practice Group (Central Region).

Jared regularly handles matters with nationwide implications for banks, lenders, and financial services clients. Admitted to practice in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and federal district courts including the Northern District of Illinois, he represents institutional clients wherever their disputes are filed. His practice routinely extends across FBT Gibbons’ multi-state platform, reflecting the firm’s ability to serve clients in jurisdictions nationwide.

Jared has extensive experience in complex commercial disputes, including breach of contract, fiduciary duty claims, and product liability matters. He routinely defends financial institutions in consumer and commercial litigation, including class actions involving claims under the West Virginia Consumer Credit Protection Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). He also represents clients in the technology, energy, and private equity industries in a broad range of commercial disputes.

Named Banking and Finance “Lawyer of the Year” in Charleston by Best Lawyers in America in both 2023 and 2025, Jared regularly represents national and community banks, institutional lenders, and financial services companies in litigation arising from lending relationships, regulatory compliance, and finance disputes. He has extensive experience defending financial institutions against claims of predatory lending and violations of federal and state consumer protection statutes.

Jared regularly represents creditors, financial institutions, and other parties in bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings. He has become a recognized voice in the emerging field of cryptocurrency insolvency, publishing a three-part series on crypto bankruptcy and insolvency principles and authoring a 2026 article for the American Bankruptcy Institute on director and officer liability in bankruptcy. Bloomberg Law quoted him in August 2026 on the implications of the Voyager Digital exculpation ruling.

Jared is a frequent author and commentator on insolvency, financial regulation, and emerging technology issues in bankruptcy. In addition to his Bloomberg Law commentary, he was a panelist on “Cryptocurrency Fraud and Insolvency in Chapter 11” at the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Winter Leadership Conference in 2025 and co-hosted the ABI TechBytes Podcast on cryptocurrency and the law. He has been quoted in U.S. News & World Report on FDIC depositor protections following bank failures and has authored articles for BankBeat and Connections Magazine on topics including the Supreme Court’s ruling in Cantero v. Bank of America and TCPA developments involving AI-generated calls.

Jared lives in Putnam County, West Virginia with his wife, Jennifer, and his children: Jackson, Caroline, Davis, and Harper. He serves as President of the Putnam County Board of Zoning Appeals and has volunteered extensively with Legal Aid of West Virginia, for which he received the 2017 Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award.
