Partner-in-Charge Ruben A. Smith co-founded the vision in 1993 of a law firm committed to excellence and guided by an unwavering conviction that differences among our lawyers and professionals make the firm more robust and the client work better. The newly combined FBT Gibbons amplifies this mission and continues to serve the unique Orange County business community.

Strengths

Our Orange County office provides comprehensive legal services, including business litigation, corporate transactional, employment, environmental, and real estate law matters. It has a track record of successfully resolving complex legal issues for companies in the energy, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, food and beverage, and technology industries. As a result, our Orange County team is well-equipped to assist clients in meeting the challenges and opportunities of this one-of-a-kind market.

Community

For 30 years, we have had the continued support of countless professional and personal communities. We are proud to return that support and to give back—lead educational programs and diversity pipeline initiatives, pitch in and raise funds after natural disasters, and help lead innovation, access, and influence with Orange County’s top colleges and universities.

Our Orange County team co-founded the Hispanic Education Endowment Fund and, and through it have established the Raymond G. Alvarado Scholarship Fund, a subsidiary fund of the Hispanic Education Endowment Fund, which provides financial assistance to Latino students in law school who have demonstrated leadership and involvement in the Latino community.

Culture

Raymond G. Alvarado began practicing law in 1972. By 1993, Ray realized his dream of establishing a minority-owned law firm when he, Ruben Smith, and two other partners formed AlvaradoSmith, before its merger with Frost Brown Todd. Besides his professional success, Ray was a well-recognized contemporary artist whose paintings can be found throughout our California office and the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Santa Ana. Ray was passionately committed to advancing diversity in the legal community, as reflected by his extensive involvement with the California Minority Counsel Program. In addition to his commitment to his profession, Ray gave tirelessly of himself to educational, civic, and youth organizations. Ray left an incredible legacy and dream that continues to inspire us. In recognition of his contributions to the community and, in particular, his commitment to higher education for our youth, the Raymond G. Alvarado Scholarship Fund was established.
