Hon. Juan G. Villaseñor (Ret.) will be a featured panelist during session 8 of the conference titled, “Voices from the Bench: The Judicial Perspective for 2027 and Beyond,” which takes place from 9 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. CST on Friday, October 23, at The Roosevelt in New Orleans, Louisiana.

This session brings together members of the judiciary to share candid perspectives on the eDiscovery trends, emerging technologies, and case law shaping litigation in 2026. The panel will address how the increased use of GenAI is playing out in courtrooms, what guardrails litigants need to meet their ethical obligations, and what admissibility challenges the bench is encountering. Panelists will also explore the new issues surfacing in ESI protocol negotiations and how courts are responding to the lack of uniformity around possession, custody, and control, particularly regarding data on employee-owned devices. The session will close with a forward-looking conversation about the skills judges want to see in practitioners and the guidance they have for today’s lawyers to develop tomorrow’s talent.
