Heather focuses her practice on advising school districts and defending governmental entities and public employees in constitutional and civil rights matters, including lawsuits involving 42 U.S.C. § 1983. She counsels clients on a wide array of issues such as special education, due process, student discipline, civil rights, school board policies, governance, and employment matters. She is passionate about public service and enjoys assisting public entities in troubleshooting and resolving complex problems. She frequently represents school districts, governmental entities, public employees, and private parties before state and federal courts, the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, the Ohio State Board of Education, and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
Heather is active in the education law community and presents at local, state, and national conferences. She is a regular guest speaker at school districts across the state of Ohio, providing guidance to district administrators on legal issues, risk management, and best practices in special education, student discipline, and civil rights compliance.
Heather’s extensive experience as a teacher and school administrator gives her unique insight into the challenges facing school and public-sector clients. Her years in the classroom and in legal practice have allowed her to bring confidence, dependability, maturity, and good judgment to her clients.
