Amy focuses her practice on technology transfer and the commercial agreements emerging companies need to grow, from IP licenses and material transfer agreements to NDAs and services agreements. She draws on a background in drug discovery, clinical research, and university commercialization to help research institutions and life sciences startups move innovations from the lab to the market.
Before law school, Amy worked as a laboratory technician in a medicinal chemistry lab at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. She is a named co-author on eight peer-reviewed publications on infectious disease drug discovery resulting from that work. She then managed neuro-oncology trials as a clinical research coordinator at UK’s Markey Cancer Center. Later, as a clinical research associate at Parexel, she led regulatory and ethics submissions for global study start-up, completing her narrative of drug discovery from bench to bedside.
Amy’s technology transfer experience began as a fellow on the Intellectual Property Development Team at UK’s Office of Technology Commercialization. There she conducted patentability assessments, evaluated invention disclosures, and performed IP diligence. She returned to that office as a legal intern during law school, drafting and negotiating a wide range of technology transfer agreements, including data use and inter-institutional agreements.
She also spent a summer with the Office of Legal Services at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where she worked on a range of technology transfer and clinical trial agreement matters. Her law school experience further includes FDA regulatory consulting, an externship with UK’s Office of Legal Counsel, and an externship with the healthcare privacy team at UK HealthCare’s Office of Corporate Compliance.
