Using Corrective Actions to Reduce Risk for Regulated and Unregulated Products

Monday, October 21 | 12:00 pm ET

The U.S. economy is fueled by commerce involving a wide range of products—some regulated and others not. We all know that medical devices are regulated, but did you know that everyday items like coffee pots, cosmetics, furniture, children’s toys, and clothing items are also regulated? As a manufacturer, importer, distributor, retailer, or e-commerce platform, you have risk exposure for dangerous products in the stream of commerce. Whether your products are regulated or not, you can minimize risk exposure with rigorous internal processes and expert guidance in developing and implementing corrective actions (e.g., recalls, retrofits, market withdrawals). We will discuss the broad categories of regulated products and the applicable regulatory framework, with a spotlight on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s role and guidance on risk minimization for unregulated products.

In addition, they will also discuss the control of Congress and the impact of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling ending the Chevron era of federal courts deferring to federal agencies.
