Drawing on more than two decades of experience as in-house and outside counsel in both the United States and Europe, Paolo concentrates his practice in domestic and international trademark clearance and prosecution, Lanham Act litigation, trademark portfolio management, anti-counterfeiting enforcement, and U.S. and multicountry litigation. His practice encompasses copyright registration and enforcement, trade dress protection, internet and media law, and domain name dispute resolution. He represents clients in a broad array of industries ranging from fashion, chemical and pharmaceuticals, food and wine, media, entertainment, finance, insurance, and tourism.
Paolo also counsels clients on software-related intellectual property matters, informed by his knowledge and coursework in computer science fundamentals for legal practitioners. He provides practical guidance on software licensing, open-source compliance, and digital content protection. His work includes advising on database rights, API licensing structures, and cloud service arrangements, with particular focus on their intersection with traditional trademark and copyright concerns. His practice further encompasses digital brand protection strategies across social media platforms, domain names, and online marketplaces.
Paolo is highly regarded in the field of opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, for all stages from discovery to trial. He has extensive experience in the area of geographic certification marks, having prosecuted many applications to register and maintain world-renowned indications of origin including Prosecco Doc, Emilia, Asiago, and Pecorino Romano.
He regularly advises clients on general corporate matters, with a special focus on international and cross-border transactions, and is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars in the United States and Europe.
