John’s practice focuses on corporate and transactional matters, with an emphasis on the energy and other infrastructure-oriented industries. He advises public, private, and closely held businesses, including private equity-backed and middle-market companies, on a wide range of legal issues. John regularly advises on mergers & acquisitions & divestitures (M&A and A&D); private equity investments; debt and equity financings; energy-related transactional and operational matters; complex commercial contracts; partnership and joint venture transactions; and corporate formation, restructuring, and governance matters. John also serves as outside general counsel for small and mid-size companies.
John provides practical, business-oriented guidance on legal matters. He utilizes a proactive approach to identify and focus on issues that clients care deeply about and provide thoughtful solutions that emphasize the achievement of client business objectives while balancing associated risk.
John has almost three decades of experience, spanning private practice and in-house roles, corporate leadership, and specialized advisory roles. He began his legal career at a preeminent energy law firm in Houston, where he developed deep experience in oil and gas transactions and corporate matters. He has held executive-level in-house roles, including serving as general counsel for several energy companies.
